This bow is a slightly different take on the flattened horse bow with wood siyahs that we built here : https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD816DB6470FEE164&feature=view_all
The main difference is that the siyah is glued or laminated into the PVC pipe at the end, so that the back and belly of the siyah have a layer of PVC over them. This allows for a more seamless transition from limb to siyah and gives the impression of a fully laminated bow. The same technique can be used on larger, heavier bows as well. It’s just as strong if not stronger than simply driving the end of a siyah into the pipe or lashing a siyah onto the surface of the pipe.
The siyahs on this bow are maple, though any dense hardwood can be used. There is a basic template for the siyahs here: https://backyardbowyer.com/2012/12/laminated-siyah-core-template/ As long as the back and belly are left flat for laminating, really any design can be used. It’s a good place to go crazy with designs. This is also a good way to make the PVC on a bow flat for laminating string bridges or tip overlays.
The bow was finished with a faux snakeskin pattern done with spray paint. The method I used is pretty much the same as this video: https://youtu.be/S2d_z2OWEs4 I just used the same paint for the base coat and top coats. This gives a very subtle raised look, the effect coming from the layers of paint rather than just contrasting color. The stripes were done using masking tape over the net for clean lines.
Thanks for watching and enjoy!
