2024 Aluminum Plate

This plate is made of an aluminum-copper alloy, with high strength-to-weight ratio. 2024 Aluminum plate is used for truck and aircraft wheels, truck suspension parts, and is useful in aircraft fusilage components. 2024 alloy does have limited weldability, but 2024 is less corrosion resistant than other alloys.

2024 alloy plate has good fatigue resisitance and is specified for many structural applications for aerospace, including fusilage structural components, wing tension structure, and shear ribs and webs.

Applications:

  • Fuselage structurals
  • Wing tension members
  • Shear webs and ribs
  • Precision fittings
  • Truck wheels and parts for transportation

  • The Global Commerce In Motion sculpture expresses a simple concept in a distinctive way: getting from point A to point B is often more complicated than it seems. YRC Worldwide offers complex logistics and precision timing to its clients; hence, the kinetic sculpture visually articulates these tasks. One challenge was to convey YRC’s interest in being portrayed as a global logistics company, not a trucking company. The desired outcome produced a one-of-a-kind display that avoids being literal but successfully shows the intricacy of the business.

There is a progression from left to right that stylistically shows the company’s evolution, from a more industrial time to a more modern, digital era. To accomplish this, the design team utilized a variety of different materials, including: stamped, clear-coated and polished aluminum; perforated and cast zinc and nickel-plated steel; bronze; exposed circuits; acrylic sheets; colored vinyl and digital media on LCD monitors.
