This video is to bring you a closer look at the Pemko 2221AV Mill Finish Aluminum Door Shoe with Rain Drip – Vinyl insert.
This door bottom is not the most common of door bottoms because it is intended to go into the bottom channel of an inverted style.
The 2221 is representative of the profile of this door bottom (u-shpaed, inversion style).
The ‘A’ means this is in the mill aluminum finish.
The ‘V’ stands for the vinyl insert seal (standard builders quality material).
This is available in aluminum, mill finish, dark bronze, and gold.
There is an image below this video showing everything important dimensionally about the door bottom.
For 1-3/4″ thick doors.
The dimension of the face with the drip cap is 1-3/8″.
The inside leg is close to an 1-1/8″.
The dimension from the inside all the way to the bottom of the seal is an 1-1/4″ (closer to 1-5/16″).
Screws in a complimentary finish are included (#6 x 5/8″).
When you fit this to the bottom of the door the entire raised portion on the unit will need to occupy space.
You will most likely be using this item on hollow metal doors.
For exterior doors (drip cap).
On in-swinging doors you’ll have to cope the drip cap around your stop (hack saw).
From the bottom of the inside channel to the bottom of the seal is 1/4″ (very important to note).
The undercut that you’re working with is on your door and frame is really important for you to understand what you’re getting when you order this item.
If you have a 3/4″ undercut, this is probably not your best choice.
This would be used in a tighter situation.
Maybe you’re using this on a hollow metal door with a standard 3/4″ undercut, but you have a threshold that is a 1/2″.
This item would work well in a situation like that.
Available in several different lengths as well.
If you have a need for a custom length by all means let us know by ordering the next longest piece or pieces and indicating in the comment field what size you’ve like for us to cut the material back to.
The reason for that is if you had to cut this 3ft piece down to 32″, you’d eliminate that slotted hole and be forced to drill another one.
It is tough to drill a slotted hole especially if you’ve not used a center punch.
Also slotted holes are nice to have because they allow you to have some vertical adjustment once on the door (compensate for an uneven sill or a door not hung plum).
If you order a custom length with us not only will we locate the holes in the proper dimension from the edge, but also the proper center to center as well.
Pemko is a full-line manufacturer of all things weatherstripping related, not just commercial, but residential as well.
They also proved aluminum continuous hinges, sliding door hardware, and metal vision frames.
